Hitachi Energy to invest US$200mn in Brazil

Hitachi Energy announced a new investment of 1.2bn reais (US$200mn) in Brazil. 

The resources will be earmarked for the expansion of the company’s power transformer plant in Guarulhos, São Paulo state, and a new manufacturing unit planned to be concluded in 2028. 

The investments aim to increase production capacity in Brazil to better serve the domestic and export markets. 

With the expansion in Guarulhos and the new facility, the Japanese company will create more than 600 direct jobs, according to a release.

“The fact that our company has been in the country for so long is a reflection of the confidence of our customers in our technical and operational competence,” said Glauco Freitas, country managing director of Hitachi Energy in Brazil.

Today, Hitachi's facilities in Guarulhos and Blumenau, in Santa Catarina state, supply power and distribution transformers, shunt reactors and critical components and equipment for electrical systems for the Americas, Europe and the Middle East

“With the expansion of our production capacities, we will be even better prepared to support the transition to clean energy,” said Alexandre Malveiro, Latin America regional manager, business unit transformers at Hitachi Energy.  

The investment in Brazil is part of the company’s US$1.5bn capex to ramp up global transformer production by 2027. 

Among other countries included in the investment plans are Finland, Germany, Spain, the US, China, Vietnam and Australia.
