Honduran construction chamber calls on congress to approve infra budget

Bnamericas

The Honduran construction chamber (Chico) is calling on congress to speed up approval of the infrastructure budget to revive the sector.

Construction activity is currently stalled due to a “legislative paralysis” in congress that has prevented approval of more than 16bn lempiras (US$639mn) for infrastructure works, local news outlet Proceso Digital reported Chico manager Silvio Larios as saying.

“We have to wait until the lawmakers reach an agreement so that the plenary sessions can be resumed, and the expected budget approved,” said Larios.

The country is currently in a dry season that the construction sector wants to take advantage of and “works need to be started as soon as possible,” he said.

Larios added that Chico expects to see several road infrastructure maintenance projects in preparation for the Holy Week (March 24-30) celebrations.
