Honduras and China sign agreement on constructing and equipping schools
Honduras signed an agreement with China to start studies to build 375 schools in the Central American country, local media reported.
The schools include ones that are part of the Red Solidaria network and are focused on rural areas, marginalized communities and ethnic minority groups, along with large education centers.
According to the Honduran foreign ministry, the feasibility studies will provide a detailed evaluation of the needs and resources.
The agreement was signed during the visit of China’s vice minister of foreign affairs Hua Chunying.
Honduras’ foreign minister Eduardo Enrique Reina signed the document with Beijing’s ambassador Yu Bo and Hua as a witness.
The studies are part of a project to provide infrastructure and equipment for schools in Honduras under a technical cooperation agreement involving non-reimbursable funds reached with President Xi Jinping during President Xiomara Castro’s visit to China – and represents a “significant step” to strengthen diplomatic relations between both nations, says the Honduran ministry.
According to the press office of the Honduran government, Hua Chunying met Castro on Wednesday.
