Honduras awards design contract for two hospitals

Bnamericas

Honduras and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) awarded a contract to design traumatology hospitals for Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula.

Grouped under bidding process IDB-C2097536-03/24, both projects are expected to strengthen traumatology treatment and emergency service provision. Financing will be provided under IDB loan 4713/BL-HO.

The IDB notification can be seen in the Documents box in the top-right corner.

A consortium formed by Planho Consultores and Taller de Arquitectura Sánchez Horneros won the contract. It beat a consortium formed by Técnica y Proyectos, Antares Consulting and Casa Solo Arquitectos, and a bid by company Barcelona Global Design.

The winning consortium will have 260 days to design the hospitals and determine the equipment required for each facility. Each design will cost around US$3.3mn.

The health ministry said in January that both hospitals should start operations in December 2025 and are part of eight similar projects the Xiomara Castro administration intends to finish before its term ends in 2026.
