Honduras city seeks support for water system PPP project

Ramiro Chacón, mayor of the city of Danlí, in Honduras' El Paraíso department, has made a request to the public-private partnership promotion agency Coalianza to provide technical assistance to design of a rehabilitation and expansion project for the local water supply system.

The aim of the project is to improve the potable water system for more than 70,000 people in the city, which lies approximately 70km east of capital Tegucigalpa, and the works would be carried out under the local public-private partnership model.

Of the 70,000 area residents, around 40.000 have access to potable water and the rest rely on water councils for provision of water, Chacón was reported as saying on the presidential website.

Project works include the construction of a concrete gravity dam on the Vallecillo river, 6km from the city; construction of a water pipeline and treatment plant, expansion of the distribution network and installation of micro meters.

Feasibility studies have been undertaken for the project and are currently being updated with funds from the US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Under the mandate for the promotion of the public-private partnership, Coalianza is required to offer technical assistance to municipalities when requested for the development and management of projects.
