Honduras pledges to open three hospitals in mid-2025
The Honduran health ministry said three of the eight hospitals that were promised by Xiomara Castro’s administration will be ready mid-2025.
Minister Carla Paredes said the hospitals located in Santa Bárbara department, Salamá in Olancho department and Ocotepeque are still under construction but will be ready in June.
“It is natural for Hondurans to doubt but they will be witnesses of how President Castro will honor her word with the inauguration of these important healthcare infrastructure projects,” she was quoted as saying by news outlet Tiempo.
Another one of the eight hospitals, the one planned for the Roatán islands, is pending bank authorization from the company that won the tender.
“Even if I’m no longer in office, I will not miss [attending] the opening of the hospitals,” said Paredes. However, Castro’s administration is expected to end in January 2026.
Construction of the hospitals faced delays due to funding and administrative issues in the pre-construction and bidding stages.
