Honduras power watch: Electromobility, regulatory tweak, rates

Feasibility studies to advance electromobility in Honduras are expected to begin this half, according to the country’s energy department.

The announcement followed a meeting (pictured) of energy undersecretary Marco Flores, the president of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei), Dante Mossi, and members of Honduras’ petroleum products distributors association Ahdippe.

“There is a great willingness on the part of Cabei to finance the studies,” Flores said.

Power regulator CREE opened consultation for proposed modifications to the firm capacity technical norm.

The changes will address issues of maximum requirements for thermopower production and the calculation of firm capacity for hydros with storage and regulation capacity, among other areas.

CREE also approved state power company Enee’s rates structure for this quarter, with the average falling to 5.76 lempiras (US$0.23) per kWh from 6.06 lempiras in 4Q22.

The adjustment follows a review of information provided by Enee and national dispatch center CND related to generation costs.
