Honduras prepares tender for design of Tegucigalpa beltway expansion

The Honduran government is preparing a tender for the design of Tegucigalpa’s beltway expansion.

The contract will be tendered and awarded in the next three months, local daily El Heraldo reported infrastructure and transport minister Mauricio Ramos as saying.

The expansion, he said, will run from the municipality of Valle de Ángeles to El Durazno.

The idea to expand the beltway was presented by Distrito Central mayor Jorge Aldana before taking office in 2022, with little progress made since then.

Due to the size of the project, the Distrito Central municipality (which consists of Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela) will require support from the central government, according to the report.
