Honduras receives energy storage contract proposals

Five offers were submitted in Honduran state power company Enee’s international public tender to develop a battery energy storage system (BESS).

The bidders were Consorcio Windey Equinsa (US$50.2mn), Empresa Electric Solar (US$87.3mn, alternative quote US$78.8mn), Representaciones Mecánico Eléctricas (US$76.8mn, alternative quote US$73.8mn), Consorcio Amarateca (Sinohidro-SEL) (US$74.1mn) and Consorcio Amergy (US$98.6mn), procurement information shows.

The work entails the study, design, testing and startup of a 75MW, 300MWh BESS at the Amarateca substation.

The call for the eight-month contract was issued at the start of September.

“In recent years, multiple challenges have been faced in the operation of the SIN [national grid] due to the high penetration of variable renewable generation during the day, and the deficit of firm power to supply demand during the period of maximum thermal requirement,” Enee highlights.

“In this sense, considering that the state of emergency in the electrical subsector will persist as long as the universal electrical energy service is not provided in the national territory, and in accordance with the needs currently presented by the SIN... this LPI [international public tender] is essential,” the company adds.
