Honduras’ social investment fund FHIS is planning to invest 2.08bn lempiras (US$83.2mn) in education, road, water and health infrastructure this year.

“[FHIS will focus on] school repairing projects, paving works, water projects, water treatment, rehabilitation of health centers, public spaces and everything that has to do with social infrastructure and community development,” FHIS head Octavio Pineda told newspaper El Heraldo.

He added that the 2023 budget involves 2.5bn lempiras, of which 450mn lempiras are for administrative purposes. Of the rest, “50% will go to refurbish schools and the rest is for public spaces, health centers, and infrastructure projects.”

FHIS oversees or carries out 1,500 projects, including the expansion of the CA-13 highway in Atlántida department, roadworks in Orocuina municipality (pictured), and the expansion of the Juticalpa and San Felipe hospitals.
