Honduras targets 2023 construction start for Tegucigalpa highway

Honduras is advancing a US$44.3mn, 5.36km highway project in the south of Tegucigalpa, planning to start construction next year.

The infrastructure will connect to the CA-5 highway and “run from La Cañada, where there is a multi-access point connected to the peripheral (beltway) that goes all the way to El Tizantillo. It will [help to reduce by] half the traffic jams that are generated in this sector,” local media quoted downtown mayor Jorge Aldana as saying.

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei), which has supported the project since 2021, will provide financing.

Bank officials and local representatives visited the construction site last year, but the project failed to move to the next stages until now.
