Honduras to invest nearly US$50mn in school infrastructure next year

Honduras’ social investment fund Fhis pledged to spend 1.2bn lempiras (US$47.7mn) on school infrastructure in 2023.

Fhis head Octavio Pineda said 300mn lempiras will go to refurbishing schools in urgent need of repairs.

“There is a goal to invest not less than 4bn lempiras in school infrastructure in four years,” he told newspaper La Prensa.

According to the fund there are at least 12,000 schools of a total of 17,000 in poor condition. Of these, nearly 7,000 are reportedly in critical condition and only 20% of the total have sewage and water systems.
