Honduras to launch Comayagüela drainage tender

Municipal authorities in Honduras will invest 60mn lempiras (US$2.5mn) to help prevent flooding in part of the so-called central district.
The money will be spent in Comayagüela city, which is next to capital Tegucigalpa, to build flood control infrastructure, local daily El Heraldo reported.
According to the paper, the funds were approved last year by the municipal government.
Planned work includes construction of drainage and sewerage infrastructure, as well as paving of the Arturo Quezada neighborhood's main street, which is prone to flooding.
Central district mayor Nasry Asfura told the daily that pipes of between 40 and 42 inches in diameter will cross the neighboring Ciudad Lempira area.
"The project is underway. We are hoping to launch a tender shortly so that the work can start," Asfura is quoted as saying.
The work will benefit more than 35,000 residents in the Arturo Quezada, Ciudad Lempira and Australia neighborhoods of Comayagüela.
According to the paper, the municipal government has already carried out work worth 74mn lempiras in the San Juan del Norte 1 and 2, Buenas Nuevas, Brisas de la Laguna, Las Pavas and La Alemania 1 and 2 neighborhoods.
Earlier this week, Asfura also announced infrastructure projects that his administration has lined up for this year.
