Honduras to step up power sector oversight

Honduran power regulator CREE launched bidding to draft norms for the supervision of the sector, amid the government’s push to increase oversight of the industry.

“There is a need to incorporate regulatory elements in order to allow a solid audit process,” according to the watchdog.

The areas identified by CREE that need greater oversight include those related to deadlines, infringement and sanctioning procedures.

The winner of the three-month contract will analyze the current regulatory framework to identify potential improvements and structure the necessary changes, as well as to conduct penalty simulations and calculations, among other tasks.

Offers are due by August 20, bidding information shows.

CREE also opened consultation for a tariff proposal presented by state power company Enee for self-producing users. Information is available in the Documents box in the top right corner.

Meanwhile, energy secretary and Enee head, Erick Tejada Carbajal, met with Cuba’s energy and mines vice minister Argelio Jesús Abad Vigoa to discuss cooperation, including distributed generation.
