Hydroelectric production avoided oil purchases for US$ 89.1 million in 5 months
This Egehid release was published using machine translation.
Hydroelectric generation during the first five months of 2024 allowed the country to save US$ 89.1 million in the purchase of oil in the international market.
During the January-May period of this year, the Dominican Hydroelectric Generation Company (EGEHID) registered a renewable energy production of 575,532.83 megawatts/hour, which avoided the purchase of 1,107,952.49 barrels of oil.
Compared to the same period of the previous year, in January-May 2024 it produced 161.6 gigawatts more, mainly due to the contribution of increased rainfall in mountainous areas, as well as improvements in the operation of hydroelectric plants.
In May 2024 in particular, hydroelectric production was 163.7 gigawatts/hour, while in the same month of 2023 it was 65.1 gigawatts/hour, for an increase of 251.4%.
The EGEHID has an installed capacity of 624.5 megawatts of clean energy, through its 27 hydroelectric plants strategically located for the use of water in the most important hydrographic basins of the country.
The entry into the Interconnected Electrical System (SENI) of the EGEHID units is done in strict compliance with the programming of the Coordinating Body, aimed at the sustainability and stability of the country's energy service.
