IAEA head visits Cuba ahead of regional meeting
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukiya Amano, visited Cuba this week to meet with local officials ahead of a conference next week of a regional IAEA body promoting the peaceful use of nuclear technology, local media reported.
The 20th Meeting of the Technical Coordination Board (OCTA) of the Regional Cooperation Agreement for the Promotion of Nuclear Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean (ARCAL) will meet in the Cuban resort of Varadero on May 20-24, state newspaper Granma reported.
Cuba will be assuming the presidency of the technical group for the next two years and focus on cooperation to build human resources and promote the safe application of nuclear technologies in the region, Granma said.
