IBM wins Telsur outsourcing contract

IBM (NYSE: IBM) has won a five-year contract to manage the IT infrastructure of Chilean regional telco Telsur, IBM said in a statement, without revealing financial terms. IBM Chile will manage Telsur's information and management systems from its data center in Chile's capital Santiago, as well as help desk services and more than 600 employee workstations. "Outsourcing the management of our entire information and management systems infrastructure will enable us to focus on developing the best telecommunications solutions in the market," Telsur general manager Jorge Atton stated. Telsur is a fixed line operator in Regions X and XI in southern Chile. The company recently launched Blue Two Chile, an affiliate that is implementing the country's first public network for wireless broadband Internet access based on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technologies.
