ICE signs new contract for the purchase of electricity from Plantas Eólicos Limitada
This ICE release was published using machine translation.
Yesterday, Wednesday, September 6, the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) and the company Plantas Eólicas Limitada signed a contract for the purchase of electricity from the Tilarán Wind Plant. This is valid until December 31, 2025, with the possibility of being extended.
The signing took place in the Jorge Manuel Dengo building in Sabana Norte, by Roberto Quirós, ICE Electricity Manager, and María Fernanda Esquivel, representative of Plantas Eólicos Limitada. It contemplates the purchase with a capacity of 19.8 megawatts.
“In the last year we have completed agreements to purchase electricity from 99% of the country's private generators, which gives us the possibility of making greater provisions for dry seasons. “This way we promote stability in rates and guarantee satisfaction of demand,” said Quirós.
The contract is based on Executive Decree 43,700-MINAE of September 2022, which provides ICE with flexibility for the purchase of energy, within the price ranges according to the methodology approved by ARESEP. It is projected that the energy from the Tilarán Wind Power Plant and the other private plants contracted by ICE will help complete the country's daily consumption.
Of the 26 private plants located in the country – totaling 357 megawatts of power – ICE has agreements with 22 of them, which cover 354 megawatts.
