ICE supports public and private investment to increase fast chargers for electric vehicles

This Tuesday, October 1, Marco Acuña, president of Grupo ICE, participated in a hearing before the Permanent Special Commission on the Environment related to file No. 24171 on promoting electric charging infrastructure and strategies for sustainable mobility.
The leader expressed his support for private investment in electromobility. “There is enough room to increase the participation of actors in this niche. The more fast chargers there are, the greater the benefit for the country and users. For example, by 2030 we estimate that more than 155,000 electric vehicles will be in circulation in Costa Rica, which will require 290 gigawatt hours of energy. This will represent more than 2% of the demand for that year,” he explained.
He added that “Grupo ICE has provided advice, design, installation and maintenance to clients who have charging points. We also have experience with electric buses in public transport, and we support taxis at Juan Santamaría Airport in the transition to using energy produced in the country.”
Acuña stressed that, for fast chargers, a regulated rate should be maintained, since this provides legal security for investments. “The income of the distribution companies that sell electricity would not be affected by private participation. On the contrary, this contributes to the electrification of the economy,” he concluded.
