Idaan to revoke Icasur contract for Penonome plant

Panama's state water utility Idaan has announced it will begin the process to revoke a contract with construction & engineering firm Icasur for the design and construction of the Penonome drinking water plant, Capital Financiero reported. The utility says Icasur copied design plans used for the San Carlos, Bejuco and Chame drinking water plants. Icasur presented the lowest bid for works in September last year. The plant is expected to cost some US$6mn, with financing from the national trust fund, and will have a capacity of 24Ml/d of water, BNamericas previously reported. Cocle province capital Penonome has some 68,000 residents. Idaan has asked Aseguradora Mundial to head up works. By law, Icasur has five days to transfer works, in this case until August 26.
