The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a US$60mn loan to Uruguay for a US$75mn municipal finance strengthening and public services quality and efficiency improvement program, the Bank announced Wednesday. The program's investment component will finance urban and regional development projects such as neighborhood upgrading, local roads, water and sanitation, drainage and local economic development. The investment resources of the program will be divided into two tranches, and only those municipalities that comply with performance targets will have access to the funds in the second round of distribution. The national government's planning and budget office is the program's executing agency.
