IDB expects 1H24 tender for La Paz cable car expansion
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) expects the tender for the construction of a 1.2km extension of Bolivian capital La Paz’s cable car system, known as Mi Teleférico, to be launched during the first half of 2024.
Bidding for two related contracts for the project that will be funded through a US$62mn loan approved by the multilateral in October is also due to be launched in 1H24.
The project, which is part of the second phase of Mi Teleférico, involves expanding the system’s Café line from Las Villas station to the Pampahasi neighborhood in eastern La Paz. This component would demand US$45mn, documents from the bank show.
The extension, which involves two new stations and 55 extra cabins, is designed to benefit 135,000 residents and will be carried out by state cable car company EETC MT, its head Alejandro Gonzales said last month in a press release.
Tenders for two consultancy contracts are also expected to be launched in the first half of 2024. One is for engineering works and the other to oversee the transparency of the construction tender.
Finally, a contract is scheduled to be auctioned in the first half for the supervision of the design, construction and start-up of the expansion.
