Following two months of studies, Bogota's urban development institute IDU is kicking off 24bn pesos (currently US$8.5mn) in maintenance works along seven major roadways running through the Colombian capital, IDU announced. Works will run 22 months and include repairing drainage systems, patching roads and repaving some surfaces. The following contractors will perform works: Union Temporal Vias (6.4bn pesos); the Alianza consortium (5.0bn pesos); Doble A Ingenieria (3.9bn pesos); and the Mantenimiento Malla Vial Bogota consortium (6.4bn pesos). Two groups - the Mantenimiento and Civiltec consortiums - will perform supervisory works for 2.2bn pesos total. The project falls under IDU's "Vallas Verdes" initiative, which started December 2002 which aims to improve urban road conditions.
