Imerys to expand carbonate capacity

Brazilian kaolin producer Imerys-RCC plans to invest US$5mn to expand installed capacity for the production of carbonates for steel, plastics and paper industries, AE-Setorial reported, citing a company official. The company wants to expand production of carbonates for paper by 15% from the current 140,000t/y, said the official, Sergio Luiz Zegaib, manager for products and human resources. The company also produces some 430,000t/y of kaolin, making it Brazil's second-largest producer of this clay. The expansion of carbonate capacity is slated for conclusion by 2H04 and annual revenue is forecast to increase by US$3mn. Based in Barcarena, in northern Brazil's Para state, Imerys-RCC is controlled by France's Imerys.
