IN BRIEF: Brazil watchdog clears Vivo-Nextel RAN sharing deal
Brazilian telecom watchdog Anatel has approved an agreement between local carriers Vivo and Nextel Brasil under which the former will provide voice and data coverage on its 3G network to the latter.
The so-called RAN sharing agreement builds on a deal signed by the firms' respective controllers, Telefónica and NII Holdings, in 2014. Brazil antitrust regulator Cade gave the greenlight the agreement last month.
Anatel will monitor the deal for the next two years to evaluate service provision to users and coverage requirements, principally by Nextel, which accepted expansion obligations when it bought wireless spectrum in a 2010 auction.
