IN BRIEF Jamaica awards Kingston water contract

Jamaica's cabinet has awarded a US$7.24mn contract to improve water supply in capital Kingston's metropolitan area.

The 12-month contract was awarded to company Deryck Gibson and includes procurement of 50,000 solid state cold water meters and 25,000 brass valves, state news agency JIS reported.

Earlier this month, the National Water Commission said it has seen a significant increase in the reports of stolen water meters across the island.
