IN BRIEF: Managua approves waste-to-fuel project

Nicaraguan capital Managua's municipal council approved a 30-year concession to operate a waste-to-fuel plant at the La Chureca sanitary landfill.

W2E Eco Energy Investment Nicaragua plans to invest US$17mn in the project that will process 20t/d of plastic to produce 100b/d of synthetic fuel, El Pueblo Presidente reported. An estimated 10% of the 1,260t/d the landfill receives is plastic.

Company representative Andrés Fernández said the remaining steps are securing the environmental license and financial closure. The goal is to have the plant online in two years.
