From the Presidencia de la República
Guaymas, Sonora, August 24, 2024.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador confirmed in Sonora that he will soon make his 30th visit to the state:
“I am coming because we need to hand over the irrigation district and the aqueduct to the Yaqui people. I am also coming to the Justice Plan in the company of the president-elect, Claudia. So, it will be 30 times.”
Accompanied by the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the president inaugurated seven works of the National Port System in Guaymas: modernization of the Guaymas-Chihuahua highway, which consists of three sections totaling 47.5km; construction of dock 1, mineral warehouse, Guaymas Tourist Marina yard; modernization of the railway circuit, as well as rehabilitation of Aquiles Serdán Avenue and the Plaza de los Tres Presidentes.
“I only have one commitment left unfulfilled, but I asked our president to support me, because we ran out of time: a road from Bavispe to Casas Grandes; we built the one from Agua Prieta to Bavispe and it turned out very well, but we need to build the road from Bavispe to Nuevo Casas Grandes. And our president has already relieved me of the commitment and we are going to go very slowly, yes, slowly, slowly, little by little. And we are doing quite well.”
He thanked the Navy and its head, José Rafael Ojeda Durán, as well as the sailors and soldiers for their great help in the transformation of the country and their actions to benefit the people.
After stating that those at the top no longer rule because Mexico is now a country for all Mexicans, he stressed that the budget is distributed fairly. In addition, the federal government recovered 330 billion pesos from the fight against fuel theft.
“It was enough to build the Dos Bocas refinery, which already produces 280,000 barrels of gasoline daily, in other words, it didn't cost us anything because what we did was put an end to corruption.”
He recalled that the reform to Article 28 of the Constitution prohibits tax forgiveness and that it is enough for 30 of the 35 million Mexican families to receive at least one Welfare Program, and he emphasized that the new economic model that supports those at the bottom first is working.
“I am leaving with the satisfaction that with this new policy we have managed to reduce poverty and also decrease social inequality. That is what I take with me and it makes me very happy. So far, eight million Mexicans have been lifted out of poverty.”
President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum said that there will be continuity in the support of the federal government to Sonora, which is why the strengthening of the port of Guaymas is maintained and added:
"We are going to finish the road to Chihuahua. We are going with the next stage, not only what has been resolved so far. And the other one is from Bavispe to Nuevo Casas Grandes, we are also going to build that road.
“And to continue strengthening the Sonora Plan, which is the industrial and educational development linked to the port of Guaymas.”
He announced that the property located in the municipality of Empalme, currently assigned to National Railways, will be handed over to the Navy to continue the port of Guaymas:
“But with one thing added to it; because, just as the president created social programs, he also restored railroads, trains for Mexicans in the south. Now we are going to go north, we are going to bring the railroad to Nogales.”
After asking those present whether it is better for the justices of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation to be elected by the people or by the Senate, he reaffirmed that democracy means electing the president, legislators and also democracy for the Judicial Branch.
Secretary of the Navy, José Rafael Ojeda, said that the works inaugurated today by the president are added to various modernization actions carried out in order to boost the port of Guaymas.
“We are a bioceanic country with enormous maritime potential. That is why our president rightly proposed to boost the national maritime sector.”
The governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo Montaño , said that the modernization of the port of Guaymas will be the platform for the economic relaunch of Sonora, and recalled that, without the support of the president, the Justice Plans for the indigenous peoples would have been impossible. He also expressed the support of the people of Sonora for the future president of the Republic.
Also accompanying President López Obrador were: the Undersecretary of Expenditures of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, Juan Pablo de Botton Falcón; the Commander of the 6th Naval Region, José Daniel Reséndiz Sandoval; the General Director of the Administration of the National Port System (Asipona) Guaymas, Rogelio Bello Aguilar; the General Director of Port Development and Administration, Víctor Manuel Ozuna Díaz; and the Mayor of Guaymas, Karla Córdova González.
