La Paz, Aug 14, 2024 (AN-YPFB).- The social stakeholders in the area of influence of the recent discovery of hydrocarbons in the Mayaya structure in the Northern Subandino basin expressed, in public consultation, their support for the project to drill the Mayaya Centro - X2 (MYC-X2), Mayaya Centro-X3 (MYC-X3) and Suapi - X1 IE (SAP-X1 IE) wells.

Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) carried out the Public Consultation process in compliance with environmental regulations (Environmental Law 1333 and its regulations) on August 7 of this year in the community of Suapi Km 73, located in the municipality of Alto Beni, belonging to the province of Caranavi in the department of La Paz.

“All those present expressed their support for the project, which marks an important milestone for the development of the municipality and, therefore, of La Paz, which will become a hydrocarbon-producing department,” said Nelson García Ríos, head of the Community Environmental Relations Unit of YPFB.

This activity is a requirement for the preparation of the environmental impact assessment study in order to obtain the environmental license. The Public Consultation provided information on the hydrocarbon project in order to socialize it and collect observations, suggestions and recommendations from the participants.

The public consultation was attended by the municipal mayor of Alto Beni, Beltrán Márquez, representatives of the Municipal Council of Alto Beni, the Agroecological Federation of Communities of Alto Beni (FAECAB-73), the Agroecological Federation of Intercultural Communities of Women of Alto Beni (FAECIMAB-73), centrals, sub-centrals, sub-mayors, FAEIC area IV and representatives of the Departmental Federation of Interculturals of La Paz.

“The three projects have been socialized. As an organization, we are very pleased that these projects are being carried out within this jurisdiction,” said Javier Chambi Romero, executive of the FAECAB 73 Federation.

During the development of the Public Consultation, the scope and objective of the project were presented, followed by a technical description, possible impacts identified, their respective prevention and mitigation measures and clearing activities, as appropriate for the project.

During the presentation of the project, some additions, recommendations, observations were raised and the participants requested some clarifications, which were answered by the technical staff, for a better understanding of the project.

The state oil company is managing with the Ministry of Environment and Water the environmental license and permits to execute the project “Drilling of the Mayaya Centro - X2 (MYC-X2), Mayaya Centro-X3 (MYC-X3) and Suapi - X1 IE (SAP-X1 IE) wells.

The three new exploratory wells were included in the Upstream Reactivation Plan (PRU) that the government is undertaking with the aim of replenishing hydrocarbon reserves, revitalizing the oil sector, generating jobs and improving the quality of life of all Bolivians.
