Indian experts to support government in infrastructure assessment
New Delhi, India – The Government of India has approved support to the Dominican Republic by three experts in civil engineering and disaster prevention to assess the resilience of the country's infrastructure .
This was reported by the executive vice president of the National Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism (CNCCMDL), Max Puig , during his visit to New Delhi, where he participated in the seventh Annual Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), together with Carolina Sánchez , representative of the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
“From the special commission created by President Luis Abinader after the floods a year ago, the Dominican Republic requested this support from the Government of India, through the Coalition for the Development of Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), and after the required procedures, the CDRI confirmed to us that in the first quarter of 2025 its experts will arrive in Santo Domingo,” said Puig.
In this regard, he explained that the CDRI has already confirmed that two specialists will travel from India to inspect the country's critical infrastructure , while another will work on technical analysis and remote support from New Delhi.
Max Puig also recalled that this would not have been possible without the constant work of the Commission for the Supervision of Public Infrastructure in the Face of Climate Change , led by geologist Osiris de León and the director of Onesvie, Leonardo Reyes Madera.
“The Onesvie team, using the commission's methodology, has been making progress in the evaluation of several critical infrastructures, especially highways and communication routes of great importance for the country, and the intention is to go further, ensuring the strength and resilience of bridges, tunnels, aqueducts and dams,” he said.
During his visit to India, Max Puig also met with the Director General of the Meteorological Department, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra , with whom he discussed the memorandum of understanding signed by that institution and the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) , through which Dominican meteorologists could receive training in that country to improve their technical capabilities.
