Indotel and Conatel resume talks to find a solution to radio and telephone interference in the border area

Santo Domingo . – The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) and the National Telecommunications Council of the Republic of Haiti (Conatel), resumed talks to seek solutions to telephone and radio interference in the border area and strengthen ties of cooperation, as well as continue with the meetings on technical aspects of interest to the institutions of both countries.

During the meeting between the authorities of both countries, they also continued to discuss to find solutions from both institutions to the issues of mobile telecommunications, advances and challenges in the sound broadcasting and television broadcasting sector, and coordination of services at the border.

The meeting was headed by the director of Indotel's Radioelectric Spectrum, Alberto Delgado, and the general director of Conatel, Joses Jean Baptiste.

Jean Baptiste highlighted the good that the Haitian telecommunications organization maintains with Indotel and its willingness to open up dialogue.

"I am happy to be here today to continue this relationship of good brotherhood between Conatel and Indotel," he said.

For his part, the director of the Radioelectric Spectrum, Alberto Delgado, emphasized the need to evaluate the memorandum of understanding signed on April 16, 2021, the recapitulation of the work methodology for solving the problems of the different affected sectors and the review of the report of the first working meeting of the mobile telecommunications sector.

Indotel presented as solutions to the situation of interferences to approach the operators of each sector to mitigate or eliminate them, in addition to coordinating the use of the spectrum at the border and establishing technical specifications for operation.

They also talked about the presentation of the advances achieved in the telecommunications sector and difficulties detected in the cooperation process between the mobile service providers of both nations.

Finally, Indotel and Conatel established a work calendar to continue meeting soon.

A delegation composed of Rafael Sánchez, manager of the Radioelectric Spectrum Department, was present at the meeting for Indotel; Justin Subero, manager of the Department of Engineering of the Directorate of Authorizations; Nancy García, in charge of the Spectrum Management Department; Johnny Guerrero, in charge of the Spectrum Monitoring Department; Patria Heredia, assistant to the Directorate of Radio Spectrum Spectrum. They also accompanied Amparo Arango, coordinator of the International Relations Department; Yamilka Lopez, manager of International Relations; Estefanía Matos, analyst, and Javier García, manager.

Also present for Conatel were Michelet Gerome, from the Technical Department; Pierre Andre Cesar, IT Director; and Cherry Brunche.

Indotel and Conatel have maintained cooperative relations in the field of telecommunications, with the interest of strengthening and contributing to the development of telecommunications in both nations.
