Industrial Boilers wants to set up a biomass facility in Suriname
Office of the President release
The Indian company Industrial Boilers Limited wants to set up a facility for processing biomass in Suriname. Talks were held about this on Friday, January 13, 2023 with the delegation present in India, led by President Chandrikapersad Santokhi. The company already has experience with Suriname, including through NV Energiebedrijven Suriname (EBS).
The company specializes in converting waste into energy. Industrial Boilers facilities are of international standard and approved as such. The company is active in countries such as Bangladesh and Africa, where it mainly converts rice husks into cheap electricity. The company uses the latest technology and is therefore also ahead of developments. With a focus on quality, machines are produced and exported to Poland, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam, among others.
President Santokhi has informed the representatives of Industrial Boilers about the financial-economic situation in Suriname; the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as well as the cooperation with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Since Industrial Boilers has no relationship with the IDB, the possibility can be examined that financing can be found through the Indian EXIM Bank for investments in Suriname.
Minister Albert Ramdin has proposed that the company participate in tenders in Suriname. During the interview, he mentioned, among other things, the Ornamibo landfill and Nickerie, where rice is produced and rice husks can therefore be processed. Furthermore, according to the minister, wood waste could also be processed into sustainable energy.
Although plenty of areas of cooperation have been discussed, Suriname has made clear its priorities for waste treatment and incinerators. Follow-up meetings have been arranged.
