- The head of SICT highlighted more than 500 road, railway and airport works, and investment of more than 400 thousand million pesos, which translates into 1.5% of GDP
- In addition to benefiting more than 29 million inhabitants, they are projects of great importance for passenger and cargo transportation
- He emphasized that the works carried out by the SICT have made possible the gift of time to the communities
The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Jorge Nuño Lara, stated that the Infrastructure Plan “tried to be realistic and very close to the people” and by the end of this administration more than 500 works will have been completed, including highway projects, railways and airports of great importance for the transport of passengers and cargo.
“This represents an investment of more than 400 billion pesos, which translates into 1.5 points of the Gross Domestic Product. The benefits are palpable for more than 29 million inhabitants,” he said.
During the inauguration of the XXIV National Meeting of the Mexican Association of Land Road Engineering (AMIVTAC), Nuño Lara said that during the time he has had the privilege of heading the SICT, “the challenges have been great, but they have never exceeded our commitment and dedication.”
Accompanied by the president of the AMIVTAC, Salvador Fernández Ayala, and by the undersecretary of Infrastructure, Jesús Felipe Verdugo López, the head of the SICT mentioned that work is being done on 30 highways that will connect nearly 19 million inhabitants, 25 of them are already in operation, some of these were reactivated or concluded in this administration because previous governments had left work unfinished.
Jorge Nuño emphasized that the works carried out by the SICT have made possible the gift of time to the communities because those who previously took 10 hours to reach any destination, now do it in 2 hours or less. “The treasure of that time has been the gift of our works to the inhabitants of the most remote communities of our country,” he highlighted.
Regarding trains, Secretary Nuño Lara mentioned that the cable-stayed viaduct of the “El Insurgente” Interurban Train is a clear example of Mexican engineering; When there is leadership and determination the task can be accomplished.
Regarding aviation, he indicated that it is extremely relevant to have recovered Category 1 in air operational safety in September of last year; With this, Mexico takes off towards a new direction for the aviation sector.
Today there are 55 routes and more than 1 million additional passengers traveling between Mexico and the United States of America, he emphasized.
Likewise, in the audit carried out by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) we obtained favorable results, “we know that this empowers the aeronautical sector towards a future with more jobs, more investment, more development and well-being,” he commented.
