Ingram Micro closes 2004 with 32% share

Bnamericas
The Mexican subsidiary of US hardware and services wholesaler Ingram Micro finished 2004 holding a 32% market share, after implementing a sweeping reorganization effort, according to local news website Infochannel. After dipping to a 26% share in the middle of the year, the company managed to drive sales at the end and exceeded its goal of closing the year with a 29% share. The company recently underwent a structural change in its sales strategy in Mexico. Moving from selling a wide range of products to large numbers of clients, it now concentrates on value-added business instead. "We have great products on offer, but in terms of services we were not advancing. During 2004 we underwent an internal reorganization and today we want to be much closer to the client," Ingram Micro México CEO Alejandro Castro was reported as saying. One aspect of Ingram's new plan in Mexico is to target the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) business, a segment whose sales increased 10% between 2003 and 2004, according to Castro.
