International company sees Paraguay as a strategic country for the installation of a gas pipeline
This Ministry of Industry and Commerce release was published using machine translation.
The Minister of Industry and Commerce (MIC), Javier Giménez, received executives from the International Consulting Firm Rystad Energy, led by W. Schreiner Parker, vice president of the firm, who presented a project for the installation of a gas pipeline that would link the supply and hydrocarbon demand between our neighboring countries, Argentina and Brazil, driven by the strategic geographical location of Paraguay.
The vice minister of the Investment and Export Network (REDIEX), Rodrigo Maluff, participated in the dialogue; the vice minister of Mines and Energy of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), Mauricio Bejarano, and directors of the aforementioned company.
In this regard, the head of the Vice Ministry of Mines and Energy indicated that the consultant presented the vision of what it would mean for the gas pipeline to pass through Paraguay and communicate with the Brazilian consumer market and the Argentine producer. “The different options and variables that this international consulting firm has were analyzed in coordination with the work we are doing as a country, seeing the possibilities that this gas pipeline can unite these three countries, Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. That we can be, in the beginning, the nexus of sales to the São Paulo market, taking advantage of the situation that is occurring at the regional level,” he noted.
Effective route
For his part, the Vice President of the international Company highlighted that the dialogue focused on Paraguay's energy matrix and how investments can be promoted to expand opportunities in terms of gas transportation from the Argentine market to Brazil.
“This is a very opportune and interesting moment to think about developing infrastructure of this nature, because there is a very large demand in Brazil and there are offers that come from Argentina, and a way is being sought to bring the offer to the center of the demand. “Paraguay has a very strategic, desired geographically speaking position and it is time to take advantage of that quality,” he said.
He highlighted that Paraguay has very unique characteristics, due to Itaipú, in addition to the works that were carried out decades ago, and that now is the time to think about the future. “The minister and his Cabinet show us that they are already thinking about that,” he added.
