ISA outlines US$7.5bn Latin America backlog

The project backlog of Interconexión Eléctrica (ISA) has surpassed 29.4tn pesos (US$7.5bn) as it prioritizes electric power and road projects in Brazil, Colombia, Chile and Peru.
New capital projects account for 82% of the total while upgrades and reinforcements make up 12%. Another 4% has been set aside for maintenance work, the Colombian group said in a quarterly presentation.
ISA has earmarked US$1.23bn for the rest of 2024, US$1.77bn for 2025, US$1.49bn for 2026, US$768mn for 2027, US$922mn for 2028 and US$1.36bn for 2029-30.
In a separate statement, the company said it is currently advancing in the construction of 34 projects, including 54,000km of power lines and 407km of roads.
"These projects will represent an additional 1.7tn pesos in revenue once they come into operation," the Medellín-based firm said.
The company invested 1tn pesos in the first quarter, of which 46% was directed to Brazil, 28% to Colombia, 13% to Chile and 10% to Peru.
Power transmission projects comprised 82% of the total, roads 16% and telecommunications 3%.
ISA reported first-quarter net income of 634bn pesos, down from 828bn pesos in the corresponding period last year. The company said the result was negatively impacted by the stronger value of the peso against the US dollar.
