Jamaica approves 2 contracts to improve water supply
Jamaica's cabinet has approved two contracts valued at J$87.4mn (US$824,800) to upgrade water supply systems in the parishes of Westmoreland and Hanover, government news service JIS reported.
Bacchus Engineering has been awarded a J$43.7mn contract for works on the Bethel Town water supply and distribution system in Eastern Westmoreland.
The contract - financed by Jamaica's national water commission, NWC- entails the deployment of 7km of new pipeline to benefit existing and prospective customers in the communities of Wedderburn, Argyle Mountain and Haughton Hill. Works are scheduled for completion in September 2014.
Meanwhile, Frederick Rodrigues and Associates was awarded a contract of the same value, J$43.7mn, for the upgrade of the Cascade water supply scheme in Hanover.
The contract comprises the installation of 9km of new pipeline along the German Hill to Retrieve Road.
