Jamaica awards agro-parks irrigation contracts

Jamaica awarded two contracts totaling US$281mn to Jamaica Drip Irrigation for the installation of irrigation systems at the Ebony Park and Spring Plain sustainable agriculture parks.

One contract was for the supply and installation of pipes and fittings, and totaled US$215mn, a government release said.

The other, valued at around US$66mn, was for the supply and installation of pumps and pump houses.

The government's agro-parks initiative has generated US$36.3mn in its first two years, the release said.

The Ebony and Spring Plain parks cover 1,214ha. The parks are areas of intensive agricultural production.
