Jamaica's Caribbean Cement Company Limited (CCCL) and the Venezuelan government are close to a supply agreement for approximately 340,000t of clinker.

The deal is valued at about US$29mn, a Jamaican government release said.

The clinker would be used by Venezuela as part of an initiative to build 2mn homes over a seven-year span to address a housing shortage.

Jamaican minister of science, technology, energy and mining Phillip Paulwell said: "Apart from cement, that country's [Venezuela] economy has real and potential demand for a wide range of products that our manufacturers and producers can satisfy."
