Jan-Aug generation falls 0.52%

Power generation in Venezuela fell 0.52% to 58,650GWh in the first eight months of 2003 from the same period last year, according to information from national grid operator Opsis. Generation fell 0.29% to 88,704GWh in the 12 months to August 2003 compared to the 12 months to August 2002. Thermo generation accounted for 2,662GWh and hydro generation 5,062GWh of the 7,723GWh produced in August. The main generators in August were state-owned Edelca and Cadafe, with 4,872GWh and 893GWh respectively. Consumption was 58,390GWh in August, and 88,446GWh in the 12 months to August 2003.
