Japan eyes investment opportunities in Honduras’ Henecán port

Japan is eyeing investment opportunities in Honduras’ Henecán port, which handles a large amount of Asian cargo.

The interest came after an announcement from national port company (ENP) to move ahead with a US$120mn PPP project to upgrade the port, Honduran daily La Prensa reported.

The port is located in San Lorenzo municipality, in Valle department, where ENP general manager Carlos Bueso recently met with Japanese lawmaker and parliamentary vice-minister for foreign affairs, Yasushi Hosaka, and Japan’s ambassador to Honduras, Jun Nakahara.

The visit included a tour of the port and canal facilities, where Bueso presented the details of the project.

The Japanese officials agreed to help ENP showcase the project by establishing contacts with the ports of Nagoya and Hiroshima, La Prensa reported.

ENP is also working on projects involving canal dredging and building a bridge, which will be put out to tender, according to the report.
