JPS Connecting Customers Faster Due to Growing Smart Meter Coverage – 50% Islandwide Reach
JPS release
JPS customers are now experiencing faster connections, due to the growing smart meter coverage across the island. Despite the limitations of the pandemic last year, the Company installed almost 70,000 smart meters, surpassing initial targets for the period.
The energy provider says it is on track for 100% smart meter coverage by 2024 – as well as a range of network enhancements. The parishes of St. Catherine, Clarendon and St. Andrew are now over 98% smart. While in the west, St. James will have complete smart meter coverage by December 2021.
Customers are benefitting from smart meters as well as smart grid technology with: fewer delays in business processes, being able to monitor their electricity usage online with the JPS mobile app; greater streetlight reliability; and fewer and shorter unexpected outages. Additionally, reconnections are often made within one hour of payment – far ahead of the 24-hour stipulation.
JPS is excited about this direction as it continues to strive for greater ease and convenience, for its customers across the country.
