Juan Carlos Bermeo Calderón is the new Minister of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources of Ecuador

Through Executive Decree No. 56, of June 2, 2021, the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, appointed Juan Carlos Bermeo Calderón as Minister of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources.

The new Minister of Energy thanked President Guillermo Lasso for his confidence in assuming this position and pointed out that the functions will be carried out with professionalism, commitment and transparency, as he has been doing throughout his professional career. “ Starting today, it is a huge challenge to lead the hydrocarbon, electricity and mining sectors, considered important for the country, which we will strengthen, maintaining efficient, environmentally friendly, safe and sustainable operations, as well as seeking new investments for their economic reactivation. To this will be added, as one of the main premises of my administration, the frontal fight against corruption, to achieve all the aforementioned objectives , "he said.

Bermeo is a civil engineer by profession and has postgraduate degrees in Mediation and Resolution of Environmental Conflicts, Sustainable Development and Negotiation; in addition to a master's degree in Integrated Management Systems.

He has more than 40 years of experience in the oil and hydraulic fields and has held important positions in the public and private sectors, among which are: National Director of Hydrocarbons, Manager of the Maintenance Project of the Heavy Crude Oil Pipeline (OCP Ecuador), Consultant of the Development Bank of Ecuador, Consultant of the World Bank, Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons, Minister of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources Subrogate, General Manager of Petroamazonas EP, Manager of Hidronormandía SA, among others.

Likewise, he has made technical publications related to his area of expertise. He has also worked as a teacher and lecturer on a national and international scale.
