Bnamericas
Danish firm E Phil & Son will complete works of a 200mn Jamaican dollar (US$18.2mn) fuel hydrant system at Jamaica's Kingston international airport by the first week in October, the Jamaica Observer reported. Works are part of the national airports authority's (AAJ) project to invest US$73mn for improvements of the capital's airport during FY2003. Other works to be launched include the redesigning of the airport's departure and arrival terminals, slated to be completed by the early part of FY2004-2005, the paper added. Works include a warehouse, a ticketing concourse and a primary electrical distribution center. The transport ministry has awarded as part of works a US$4.6mn contract to Matrix Construction Limited to construct a 53sq. m. facility with two incinerators, processing 7.5 tonnes/day of solid waste, the ministry announced in a statement. Another building will be constructed to house hazardous waste materials. Works are expected for completion in eight months and will provide incineration capacity through 2016. Both airport upgrades fall under the airport reform & improvement program (Arip), which is financed by the Inter-American Development Bank, the Development Bank of Jamaica, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, the Nordic Development Fund and the national government.
