KIO's first Colombian datacenter goes live

Mexican datacenter company KIO Networks cut the ribbon on its first datacenter in Colombia, the BOG1 facility, CEO Santiago Suinaga announced on social media.
The activation comes less than six months after KIO announced its entry into South America with the acquisition of a facility in Bogotá.
"For KIO it is highly strategic to continue expanding in Latin America and we have chosen Colombia because we are convinced of the economic potential and the growing demand for our services in this great country. We are working very well with our investment partners, I Squared Capital, in the execution of our expansion plans," Suinaga said at the time.
I Squared Capital completed its acquisition of KIO in November 2021.
Tier 3-certifiied BOG1 has power capacity for IT and telecom equipment of 5.6MW, with expansion capabilities on adjacent land, for the BOG2 site, to duplicate that load to 11.2MW, according to KIO.
The vertical datacenter is a 4-storied site with 4,977m2 of built area and 1,160m2 of space available in its first phase.
BOG1 is also fit to connect 14 fiber networks and has an estimated PUE of 1.4 at full load, deemed a fairly efficient power rate for datacenters.
PUE is calculated by dividing total facility power (entering the site) by IT power (used to run machines). The lower the PUE, the more energy-efficient a datacenter is.
BOG1 is in the industrial hub Zona Franca.
Carriers currently present in the hub include Azteca Telecomunicaciones, Cirion, Claro, ETB, GlobeNet, Gold Data, IFX Networks, Internexa, Liberty Networks, Sencinet, Telefónica, Tigo, Ufinet, and WOM.
