VIDEO: LatAm Mining Outlook 2024
Mining continues to be stuck between an uncertain global economic scenario characterized by persistent inflation, high interest rates and, notably in China, flagging economic activity; a mandate to decarbonize operations; and its own need to grow – and provide the minerals needed to rewire the world for the energy transition.
In addition, the different nations in Latin America present varying environments in terms of political and social risk, some apparently more stable than others, but none easy. Permitting has become more onerous in certain markets, while political uncertainty – elections, changing regulations – is a strong factor in many places.
These circumstances and the opportunities for mining investment in Latin America in 2024 are detailed in BNamericas’ Mining Outlook 2024 report, with further insight available in this video where we discuss mining projects, global economic uncertainties and difficult political and social risks with César Kahatt, regional mining practice leader for Latin America and the Caribbean at Marsh McLennan (in Spanish).
The report also outlines 60 projects across the region targeting a construction start by the end of 2023 or during 2024, with total capex of more than US$30bn, as identified by the BNamericas Project Profile Database.
