LatAm to represent over half of Ecoener’s operating assets

Latin America will account for 65% of Ecoener’s operations in the coming years, up from 42%, a review of the renewable energy company’s project pipeline shows.
The Spanish group currently operates 300MW, of which 126MW are in Latin America. The goal is to hit 558MW in 2025, with 363MW in the region.
Ecoener’s latest additions were solar parks Cumayasa 1 (60MW) and Cumayasa 2 (36MW) in the Dominican Republic.

The next project scheduled to enter operation is the 41MW Sunnorte solar plant in Colombia that is in commissioning.
The company also has 259MW under development, of which 204MW are in Latin America.
The Dominican Republic is a major market for Ecoener, where construction is underway at solar parks Payita 1 (60MW) and Cumayasa 4 (61.7MW), and solar project Payita 2 (60MW) is in development.
“The Dominican Republic has become an important market for Ecoener. We are managing to sign attractive long-term sales contracts and it is a dollarized country that has an advanced financial system in which both multilaterals and local banks participate,” Ecoener president Luis de Valdivia said during the company’s first half results presentation.
The group has 15-year PPAs with Dominican Republic power distributors EdeEste and EdeNorte.

ECUADOR
Regarding Ecoener’s projects in Ecuador, de Valdivia said progress has been delayed by the South American country’s constitutional court related to environmental legislation.
The company picked up hydro projects El Rosario and Santa Rosa, each 49.5MW, in Ecuador’s call for 500MW from renewables.
He added that authorization to begin work is expected to be granted in 2024 and that construction would take two years, while efforts are underway to advance the projects’ dispatch component.
