LatAm wind capacity forecast to jump nearly 29GW in medium term

Latin America is expected to add 28.7GW of onshore wind power in the next five years led by Brazil, Chile and Colombia.
The three countries will represent 78% of the region’s growth from the renewable source, according to the Global Wind Energy Council’s (GWEC) 2024 report.
“Latin America had a record year in new wind power installations in 2023 with more than three-quarters of the new additions coming from a single market: Brazil,” the industry group said.
The research highlights that Latin America added 6GW last year or 5% of the world’s total.

The report attributed Brazil’s increase to projects being developed through private power purchase agreements but expects growth to be tempered by lower free market prices and the expansion of distributed generation.
