LatAm's largest photovoltaic park opens in Mexico

Mexico moved closer to its goal of 22GW installed solar capacity by 2030 this week with the opening of the 754MW Villanueva complex in the desert state of Coahuila.
It is Latin America's largest solar PV park.
Enel Green Power Mexico built the park with an investment of US$650mn. It marks an important milestone for the country's energy reform, with solar capacity planned to triple between 2015 and the end of 2018, to a projected 3,757MW and in line with the 5.4GW goal for 2019.
"Villanueva is the first energy plant to start operations after the country's energy reform," said Antonio Cammisecra, CEO of Enel Green Power in a press release.
Construction started in March 2017.
The plant won a contract in Mexico's first long-term power auction, and is backed by a 15-year PPA to sell capacity to national electric utility CFE and a 20-year contract to sell clean energy certificates.
Bidding rules for Mexico's fourth long-term power auction will be published on March 27.
