Latest Honduran power sector roadmaps peg expansion at US$3.6bn
Honduras’ national dispatch center (CND) published the final versions of its 2024-33 indicative power generation and transmission expansion plans.
Forecast investment for the generation roadmap’s (PIEG) base case scenario reaches US$2.75bn, led by combined cycle, solar/battery, large hydro and wind/battery.
“A significant contribution from thermal power plants is required to meet the growth in demand and comply with the adopted planning criteria," according to the CND.
"On the other hand, competitive costs and the possibility of contributing to firm power requirements, given integrated storage, make it possible to incorporate significant amounts of non-controllable renewable plants,” it adds.
The government agency estimates that the contribution from renewables could top 70% starting in 2029.
Estimated investment for works identified in the transmission plan (PERT) totals US$858mn.
The proposed dispatch infrastructure includes the lines Cañaveral-Rio Lindo, Jardines-Llanitos y Jicatuyo-Gualala, La Entrada-Santa Rosa II-Santa Rosa, Masca-La Victoria-Bermejo, Negrito-Yoro II-Arenales-Coyoles Central II-Reguleto and Prados-Aguacaliente.
The PIEG and PERT are available in the Documents box in the top right corner.
